DESCRIPTION

We're looking for a Spacecraft AOCS and Astrodynamics Systems Engineer with a strong background in guidance, navigation and control, together with an astrodynamics and system focus to support our space systems projects and missions.

The Spacecraft AOCS and Astrodynamics Systems Engineer will be responsible for:

  • The design, development, execution and validation of guidance, navigation and control/attitude and orbit control systems.
  • Understanding and implementing hardware and control algorithm solutions for a complete cradle-to-grave AOCS solution, within the bounds of a programme's cost and schedule.
  • Modelling, simulation and analysis in areas such as: Space mission design, Guidance navigation and control, Trajectory design, Conjunction analysis, Orbital manoeuvres, Orbit estimation, End of Life modelling, Re-entry predictions, Space debris and Space situational awareness.
  • Performing wider systems engineering activities such as architecture definition, technical trades, risk analysis and requirements tracking.
  • Progressing and delivering technical outputs to support the end-to-end execution of satellite programmes.
KEY SKILLS
  • Bachelor's, Master's Degree or Doctorate in aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics or other related technical or engineering discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in small satellite guidance, navigation and control, orbital mechanics, orbital dynamics, orbit design and astrodynamics, across the disciplines of algorithms, hardware and design.
  • Proficiency in software development with programming languages such as C++ and C.
  • Proficiency with scripting and analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB and SIMULINK.
  • Experience in modelling, simulating, analysing, implementing, testing and executing satellite attitude and orbit control algorithms, flight hardware; and in modelling and simulating the in-orbit behaviour of objects, throughout all phases of missions from concept definition through to project Kick-Off and satellite End-Of-Life.
  • Ability to understand mission goals and objectives and translate them into a pragmatic technical solution.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting workloads.
  • Ability to thrive in a technical environment.
  • Experience with satellite design and/or space system research & development.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to generate high-quality customer-facing documentation and present information clearly to a diverse audience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • UK Passport holder.
  • In possession of (or eligible to apply for) SC level security clearance.
  • Ability to work at our offices in Farnborough.
  • Ability to work flexibly to support international customers across different time zones.
  • Ability to support a small amount of international business travel when required.

We are seeking a Spacecraft Systems Engineer to support the development and implementation of our satellite programmes.

The Spacecraft Systems Engineer will support the development of the architecture, technical trades, risk analysis, requirement tracking and the technical progress and execution of the satellite programs. They must have the ability to understand the customer's vision and to work with the team to translate it into a solution, ensuring the requirements and performance are achieved.

The Spacecraft Systems Engineer will support interactions with customers, and provide technical support to related proposal efforts.

KEY SKILLS
  • Ability to understand mission goals and objectives and translate them into a technical solution
  • 3-5 years of experience in spacecraft and space technology development
  • Familiarity with 50-500kg class satellite systems and subsystems
  • Understanding of risks and risk mitigation for space-based systems
